Sheffield Futures (Youth Engagement Fund)

Mission: To end homelessness and change the lives of those affected by it.

Where they work: UK

Our partnership:  We invested in a Social Impact Bond to fund the delivery costs of Sheffield Futures under the Youth Engagement Fund (2015-2019).

Leaving school without qualifications or a plan to enter further education or employment can have a long term, damaging effect on a young person’s life and future prospects. The Youth Engagement Fund was set up by the UK’s Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to help 14-17 year-olds in danger of becoming NEET (not in education, employment or training) to successfully complete school. It is recognised that early interventions can produce positive outcomes for young people, whilst also taking some pressure off the welfare benefits system. One of the service providers in the fund was Sheffield Futures, a UK charity which provides young people with a programme of mentorship, support and confidence building. Our funding was used to cover Sheffield Futures’ upfront delivery costs and we were successfully repaid by DWP when Sheffield Futures achieved its impact targets for the young people, which included GCSE and employment outcomes.
