The education attainment gap between young people from different social and economic backgrounds and becoming NEET at a young age can have a long term, damaging effect on a young person’s life and future prospects. The Youth Engagement Fund has been set up by the DWP to help 14-17 year olds who are in danger of becoming NEET to succeed through mentoring, support and confidence building. It is intended that this early intervention will produce positive outcomes for the young person and start to take pressure off the welfare benefits system. The structure of the funding gives service providers time and flexibility to work with young people over three years to achieve multiple outcomes.

Our partnership: We have invested in a Social Impact Bond to fund the delivery costs of Sheffield Futures under the Youth Engagement Fund in Sheffield. Repayment of the investment will come from achievement of social performance outcomes: improved attitudes, attendance and behaviour at school, achieving a range of qualifications, and entering and sustaining employment.
