Nicholas Cournoyer Founder & Director


Nick started his career with The Chase Manhattan Bank, later establishing its New York-based emerging markets debt trading group, before heading a similar operation in London. Nick founded Montpelier Investment Management in 1992 to focus on investments in emerging markets. Nick is also Trustee of the Peru Opportunity Fund, a US registered foundation that links smallholder farmers in Peru to the information, simple technologies and capital they need to enhance their productivity and make informed choices about their land, their crops and their livelihoods.


Lara Cournoyer Co-Founder


Lara co-founded the Montpelier Foundation with her husband Nick. Lara studied French at City University London and speaks fluent French and Spanish. She lives in Monaco and is raising three children.


Richard Brass Trustee


Richard is Head of Wealth and Asset Management UK at Berenberg. Actively engaged in the social business sector, Richard is the founder of Impact Ventures UK, an award-winning cross-sector impact investing fund providing growth capital to social enterprises in the UK. He is chairman of the Arts Impact Fund and is a board director of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Richard is married with two children.


Chris Varco Trustee


Chris began his career as an investment analyst and fund manager at Threadneedle Asset Management in London, covering emerging markets. He was then a Partner at Montpelier Investment Management, and Programme Director of the Montpelier Foundation from 2012 to 2014. Chris is now a Senior Investment Director for Mission Related Investing at Cambridge Associates in London.
